BMW Introduces New ‘Sound Logo’
So, BMW has a new sound logo...
I'm intrigued by how effectively sound logos can reinforce a brand through our memory's affinity for audible stimuli. We are inundated by them daily, and you would recognize them if you focused upon them - yet most of us seem oblivious of their presence in our lives.
The old one seems somehow more "Bavarian" to me. The new one more... backwards psychedelic synth-saxophone?!? What's your take?

I am with you; the old one seems to conotate something more. I hear tones of a massive hammer hitting an anvil. The new one sounds like a bad impression of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire sound logo.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you've hit on the power of it, Robert. The previous sound logo related to an older group's sensibilities of Bavarian craftsmanship and industry. The new one may be aimed at expanding their audience to a more "current" consumer who grew up on video games and rabidly follows shows such as American Idol, Millionaire, etc... Maybe they are smarter than we think (or like)!
